Project Title: Apparently Nothing Rhymes With Piano
Project Description: I want to master my scales, arpeggios, and chords; I am interested in refreshing my old skills by reviewing some of my most recent pieces and also learning a new one.
Project Rationale: I chose this project because I want to be good at piano again, especially so that I can hopefully place out of the "intro to piano" classes in college - I'm pretty sure I'd be bored out of my mind going through that class.
Components for Mastery: 1. Scales, arpeggios, chords - 15 min 2. Études - 25 min 3. Review of old pieces - 20 min 4. Learning a new one (in an effective way - RPAST, the practice method, etc.) - 25 min
Research: 1. Scale Book 2. A Dozen A Day étude book 3. "Great Classical Literature" I have a lot of prior knowledge about the subject; the biggest barrier is the physical aspect of playing
Outline of Process:
Acquire Resources - books from home, Hanon techniques, Music Files
Develop Warm Up Routine - scales, arpeggios, and chords.
Technical Advancement - Dozen A Day exercises - Hanon Techniques
Reading Skills - easy pieces from books at my house, some resources from the Music Files
Repertoire Study - Reverie, Fantasia in D Minor: build difficulty from older, simpler review pieces to the Reverie and Fantasia
Creative Work and Presentation: Senior recital. Two or three piano pieces, probably.
Evaluation: I hope to be able to accomplish everything that I have described above, and be able to play at least Reverie and/or a new piece both technically correct and musically. I would like to work this project into the senior recital as well.
